Robots on the runway: Yohji Yamamoto, Viktor and Rolf Snip from the Style.com review of Yohji Yamamoto’s Fall 2007 Ready-to-Wear runway show in Paris: Next came an interlude of black-and-white polka-dot hoop skirts that at the touch of a switch revolved, the tiers of the most complicated one turning in different directions. Despite the inevitable comparisons that will be made to Hussein Chalayan (who sent out his own motorized showpieces last season), you could feel the audience breathe a sigh of happy relief. This was more familiar territory. ShowStudio’s blog has video of the Yamamoto motion skirt: Link. (via Boing Boing: Robots on the runway: Yohji Yamamoto, Viktor and Rolf)
Yohji Yamamoto was all black, all-the time (with a few surprising hits of scarlet and white) and the winter coat—at mid-length, short and grazing the floor—took centre stage with perfect cuts and simple, not-too-thinky shapes. After the show bumped into Canadian model Amanda Laine in the metro–she caused quite a stir when she boarded, still in her crazed hair and geisha-makeup from the show. What was your favourite show? Yohji Yamamoto: Represents the rise of the Asian in the sophisticated circle of International Fashion designers. In Paris, France his lineup has been credited in being both exciting and earthshaking at the sametime. He breaks the rules, and women go mad as a result of the splendid images he able to portray on the models who struts their stuff and soft slinder forms on the walk ways of the Parisian fashion world. “Pictures have surfaced of Yohji Yamamoto’s Y collection for the upcoming fall. It’s too early for a complete assessment, but it is nice to see both the strong aviator inspired cropped leather jacket alongside the quirky but stylish oversize drop crotch pants”

Yohji Yamamoto S/S 2009 I would wear every single item from this collection. If I could wear one designer everyday until I die, it would be Yamamoto. (via MAFIA HUNT » Blog Archive » Yohji Yamamoto S/S 2009)
